Method and apparatus for wrapping a stack of products in a stretchable foil cover

The method for fitting a hood of stretch film over a stack (3) of articles comprises stretching and folding tubular film (7) from a roll (4) to form a bellows shape which is wider than the stack. It is then welded together at the top and cut off, after which it is fitted over the stack. The novelty is that in the unstretched state the circumference of the film is at least 25% less than that of the stack and in the stretched state the thickness of the film at the top corners is more than 50% of its initial thickness. An Independent claim is included for a machine for carrying out the method.
