The honing rod (2) takes operational forces from a honing spindle (7) and with its control device moves relative to the honing rod to control the tool functions. The coupling structures (32,33) on the honing tool (3) undo the coupling on the honing tool. The coupling device has a movable locking piece (28) to undo the bolt on the honing tool from the honing rod. Operation of the locking piece as well as fastening the honing tool into its changed position by applying force on the coupling device is effected by means of a holding device (23).
