<p>Apparatus for producing carbon black with defined properties for measurement or calibration purposes comprises a combustion chamber (1) supplied with fuel and oxidizing gas to create a flame that forms carbon black particles, and a carbon black discharge conduit (3) supplied with quench gas. The combustion chamber and discharge conduit are contained in an inner chamber that is isolated from the environment so that the chamber can be maintained at a pressure other than atmospheric. Independent claims are also included for: (1) producing carbon black with defined properties for measurement or calibration purposes using apparatus as above by supplying the combustion chamber with fuel and oxidizing gas, forming carbon black particles by means of a diffusion flame, passing the particles to the carbon black discharge conduit, supplying the discharge conduit with quench gas, and maintaining the inner chamber at a pressure other than atmospheric; (2) testing filters by producing a gas containing carbon black as above, adding the gas to a gas stream, and passing the gas stream through a filter.</p> |
