The invention provides a method of and an apparatus for optical data transmission and reception comprising splitting data into a first data stream and a second data stream; transmitting the first data stream on a first multimode optical fibre; transmitting the second data stream on a second multimode optical fibre; receiving a first received data stream via the fist optical fibre; receiving a second received data stream via the second optical fibre; combining the first received data stream and the second received data stream to form received data. Data may also be similarly transmitted in the opposite direction, using the same optical fibres and different wavelengths on any one fibre. |
