PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrial robot which is configured such that its first arm rarely suffers interference with a workpiece or a jig. SOLUTION: According to the configuration of the industrial robot, a first arm 9 is curved in a direction rotatable with respect to a rotary section 4 and in a direction opposite to an interior angle between the first arm 9 and a second arm 12. Therefore when the robot carries out an activity inside the box-shaped workpiece 17 held on the jig 16, the first arm can avoid interference with an interfering point 18 in a space 13 defined by the concave arm, which allows the robot to carry out the activity down to a workpiece bottom surface 19. As a result, compared with a work area in a workpiece, where a conventional robot is operable, the present robot can secure a wider work area 20 inside the workpiece. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
