PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle control device for appropriately detecting an abnormal state of an endless member with high accuracy using an evaluation index value corresponding to time when the deviation of rotating speed exceeds a predetermined value. SOLUTION: The vehicle control device is provided with a starter 2 for driving an engine 1 through the endless member 13; rotation sensors 8A, 8B for detecting the rotating speed Neng, Nmtr of the engine 1 and starter 2; and an abnormality detecting means 40 for detecting the abnormality of the endless member 13 from each rotating speed. The abnormality detecting means 40 comprises a rotating speed deviation computing part 41 for obtaining the deviationΔN of each rotating speed; a slip determining part 42 for determining the slip state of the endless member 13 when the rotating speed deviationΔN exceeds the predetermined value; an index value computing part 43 for computing an evaluation index value t_jg of the endless member 13 based on the time when the slip state is determined; a memory part 44 for storing the evaluation index value t_jg; and an abnormality determining part 45 for determining the abnormal state stepwise by comparing the evaluation index value with a plurality of reference values.
