PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sustain print processing while ensuring stable operation of a printer as much as possible even upon occurrence of abnormality. SOLUTION: In the ink jet printer for printing an image by moving a nozzle head NH having a plurality of ink ejection nozzles in the main scanning direction, a plurality of nozzle heads NH capable of forming a color image independently are provided, a nozzle head control circuit board 12 are provided removably in correspondence with each nozzle head NH, and a raster controller 11 for assigning the ink ejection nozzles to the image parts in a raster image by a setting/assigning pattern is provided. The raster controller 11 alters the setting/assigning pattern when abnormality occurs in any one of the nozzle heads NH or the nozzle head control circuit board 12 and the nozzle head control circuit board 12 is removed.
