<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a process for calculating three-dimensional reconstruction of a scene from a plurality of images for the scene based on a color segmentation basis technique. <P>SOLUTION: First of all, respective images are segmented individually. Then, an initial disparity space distribution DSD is calculated for each segment by assuming that all the pixels inside the segment have the same disparity. Using an adjacent segment and projection of the segment to another image, the DSD of each segment is refined. Assumption that the respective segments have the same disparity is eased during a disparity smoothing stage. Consequently, a disparity map is obtained for each image, and when a request is made by a reconstruction application, a depth map for each pixel is calculated by using the disparity maps sequentially. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
