<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hot water storage type water heater capable of accurately filling hot water of a preset water level in a short time, even when there is residual water below a circulating port of a bathtub. <P>SOLUTION: This hot water type storage water heater has a hot water storage tank 2 for storing hot and cold water, a hot water filling pipe 21 for dropping the hot water of the hot water storage tank 2 in the bathtub 7, a bath circulating circuit 12 connecting to the bathtub 7, and a bath circulating pump 10 for circulating the hot and cold water of the bathtub 7 to the bath circulating circuit 12. When there is residual hot water in a position below the circulating port 36 in filling the hot water in the hot water storage tank 2 up to the preset water level in the bathtub 7, a required hot water filling quantity is arithmetically operated from a difference between a reference water level determined for the first time and a present water level after filling the hot water by a predetermined quantity not less than a half of a preset hot water filling quantity. Since the hot water is filled according to this arithmetic operation result, hot water filling time is shortened, and waiting time is shortened.
