A mixture of 24% 1,2,3-, 74% 1,2,4- and 2% 1,3,5-trichlorobenzenes is obtained by pyrolyzing a mixture of hexachlorocyclohexanes (83% alpha-, 14% beta-, 3% other isomers); the product is reacted with bromine giving dibromotrichlorobenzen or tribromotrichlorobenzene (see Examples 1-3).ALSO:Polymers contain, as fireproofing agents, brominated derivatives of trichlorobenzenes, in particular di- or tri-bromotrichlorobenzene. Antimony oxide may also be present. Exemplified polymers are polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, phthalic - maleic - propylene glycol polyester/styrene copolymer (impregnated on a fibreglass mat and containing also methyl ethyl ketone peroxide in diethyl phthalate and cobalt naphthenate) and natural rubber (tribromotrichlorobenzene incorporated before vulcanization).
|
