PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economical and industrially feasible method for producing optically active thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid amide or a salt thereof, the utilization of which as production raw materials for various kinds of industrial chemicals, agrochemicals and medicines is expected, and which is an industrially very useful compound. SOLUTION: The optically active thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid amide or the salt thereof can be efficiently produced by reacting an optically active 2-alkyl-D-cysteine amide with an aldehyde, a ketone or a ketal (acetal) by a simple method.
