PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device capable of obtaining the optimum steering characteristic corresponding to the precipitous vehicular behavior change accompanied by the sudden change of braking/driving force. SOLUTION: The steering device variably controls a steering gear ratio which is the ratio of the steering angle of a steering wheel 1 relative to a turning angle of front wheels 5, 5 according to steering angle information and vehicle speed information. A steering CU8 predicts the start of transmission operation based on driving force information from an ECU9 and transmission information from an ATCU10, and more increases the steering gear ratio of the steering increase side than the steering gear ratio of the steering return side.
