PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone which improves the operability by lighting a backlight, utilizing a user's intended motion to change the inclination of the portable telephone. SOLUTION: The portable telephone 100 is assumed to be set at a standard angle when an LCD display 112 is horizontally placed to be easy to see. When the portable telephone 100 changes to the horizontal state from other state than this state to reach the standard angle, an inclination sensor 103 outputs an on-signal to a controller 104. When the telephone 100 changes to other state than the horizontal state, i.e., out of the standard angle, the sensor 103 outputs an off-signal to the controller 104. When the sensor 103 detects the state change from off to on, the controller 104 lights a backlight 113 to illuminate the screen surface of the LCD display 112. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
