PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a pixel from becoming defective or a contrast from decreasing, even when an image is made to display an image display medium having a memory function over a long time. SOLUTION: An image display device 10 includes the image display medium 12, a dedicated power source 26, a controller 28, a drive circuit 29, an interface circuit 34, an image memory 36, and a counter 38, and a control PC 40 is connected to the image display device 10. When image data are outputted from the control PC 40 to the image display device 10, the controller 28 controls the drive circuit 29, to make the image display medium 12 display an image. The image display medium 12 is constituted by charging black particles and white particles, having different electrostatic charging characteristics between a display-side substrate and a back-side substrate, and the adhesion strength between the particles and substrates increases with time. The control PC 40 instructs the image display device 10 to rewrite the image at specified intervals of time so that dot defects are not generated, when the image is rewritten.
