PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for updating information on the bottom of the water updating information on the bottom of the water with a correction or an upgrading so as to accurately display the state of the bottom of the water as a three-dimensional image. SOLUTION: Means for storing information on the bottom of the water 5a stores information on the bottom of the water for generating a three-dimensional image comprising the surface of the water on which a present position and a navigation track are superimposed and the topography on the bottom of the water under the surface of the water. The information on the bottom of the water has information on the height of the bottom of the water at points of intersection of predetermined longitudes and latitudes with predetermined intervals. Combined information acquisition means 13a successively acquires combined information comprising detection information including the depth of a target under the water where a ship is positioned and ship position information including the longitude and latitude of the position of the ship on the surface of the water measured at the time of detection and stores it on combined information storage means 5b. Means for calculating the height of the bottom of the water 13b, on the basis of the longitude and latitude of the ship position information, the depth of a part of the bottom of the water of the detection information, and the height position at the time of acquisition of the detection information, calculates the height of the bottom of the water at the point of intersection and replaces previous one at the corresponding point of intersection stored on the means for storing information on the bottom of the water 5a to update it.
