PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new, highly safe medicine which is useful for improving renal functions or preventing or treating renal function disorders, and can be used for long periods. SOLUTION: This renal function-improving agent and the agent for preventing or treating the renal function disorders each contains astaxanthin and/or its ester. The renal function-improving agent especially improves glomerular filtration rate or renal clearance value. The agent for preventing or treating the renal function disorders is highly safe, can be used for long periods, and can therefore be used for preventing or treating chronic renal failures.
