TREATMENT OF SEPSIS BY LOW DOSE ADMINISTRATION OF TISSUE FACTOR PATHWAY INHIBITOR (TFPI)

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide treatment approache which inhibits the lethal effects of sepsis and simultaneously minimizes potentially serious side effects. SOLUTION: One embodiment of this invention is a method for prophylactically or therapeutically treating sepsis or septic shock. The method involves administration of tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) or a TFPI analog to patients suffering from sepsis or other inflammatory conditions. The method also involves the use of continuous intravenous infusion of TFPI or a TFPI analog at low doses to avoid adverse side effects. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
