PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a wear-out failure in a sliding portion of a refrigerant compressing mechanism built in a compressor even when a motor for compressor driving is operated at a lower limit rotational frequency or less set for maintaining a lubricant supplying capacity. SOLUTION: The compressor 17 incorporates a lubrication mechanism pumping up lubricant by centrifugal force responding to rotation of the compressor motor 17a, and supplying it to the sliding portion of the refrigerant compressing mechanism. A controller 28 monitors electric power consumption of the compressor motor 17a at one minute intervals during a period wherein the compressor motor 17a is driven at a rotational frequency that is the same or less than the lower limit rotational frequency capable of maintaining a necessary minimum lubricating capacity in the lubricating mechanism in the compressor 17, and when the monitored electric power consumption is the same as or more than a reference value corresponding to an electric power value in a state wherein friction of the sliding portion of the compressor has increased due to shortage of the lubricant, rotational frequency limiting operation is carried out wherein the rotational frequency of the motor 17a is controlled such that it does not become lower than the lower limit rotational frequency.
