<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique of oxidizing safely and inexpensively cut chips of a magnesium alloy so far discarded as industrial waste and allowing recycle of magnesium as an efficient environmental catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The magnesium alloy and ferrite, both in the form of powder or small lumps, are mixed in a ratio of ferrite of 20-50 wt.% and baked at 700-800°C. The use of ferrite as an oxygen-supplying source for magnesium controls rapid reaction of magnesium. The baked product can be used as an adsorbent in the low-temperature range, e.g. around room temperature, and as a decomposing agent in the temperature range of ≥400°C. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
