<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light modulator wherein accelerating drive is performed in order to raise the nonlinearity, so that its response is improved when excess phase shift keyed (DPSK) transmission is performed, and an operation method of the light modulator. <P>SOLUTION: A Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) contains an MZM driving circuit which is constituted so that connection is performed to an electrode, digital data is carried, and a DPSK driving signal having voltage which exceeds regular driving voltage of the MZM about 20% at least is provided to the electrode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
