<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus using a side light type surface light emission panel as a backlight, wherein a light source side dark part in an oblique visual angle is not generated even when frame narrowing is promoted. <P>SOLUTION: When a total reflection angle of a light guide plate 4 to an air layer is defined as θ, a ratio (A/B) of a distance A from a light incident surface 4a opposed to a cold cathode tube 5 of the light guide plate 4 to a position corresponding to an edge of a display region Dd of a liquid crystal display to the thickness B of the light guide plate 4 is specified to be (A/B)≤tanθ to promote the frame narrowing of the liquid crystal display and further the light incident surface 4a is formed in a fine rugged surface shape to disperse going directions of light made incident in the light guide plate 4. Thus, the light source side dark part in the oblique visual angle generated by promoting the frame narrowing is canceled and satisfactory display quality is obtained. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
