<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide optical and electro-optical elements which are used for an optical retarder of a liquid crystal displays having an alignment layer on a single substrate, and a crosslinked liquid crystal monomer layer brought into contact with the alignment layer. <P>SOLUTION: An anisotropic layer is manufactured by applying the alignment layer such as a photo-aligning polymer network structure on the single substrate, and applying a layer of a non-crosslinked liquid crystal monomer which is a monomer mixture having nematic, cholesteric, ferroelectric or non-linear optical properties on this, crosslinking these layers, and fixing the alignment. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
