PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document-pressing plate opening/closing device capable of reducing the speed at which a document pressing plate is inclined from the maximum opening position to the maximum-use opening position. SOLUTION: The device includes: a mount member 4 mounted to the main body 2 of the device such as a copier, a printer, a facsimile, or a scanner; and a support member 5 freely rotatably connected to the mount member 4 and mounted to the document pressing plate 3. In regular use, the support member 5 turns from a closing position where the document pressing plate 3 comes into contact with the upper surface of the main body 2 of the device to the maximum-use opening position. In addition, for maintenance, the support member 5 is allowed to turn further to the maximum opening position from the maximum-use opening position. The device includes a torque generating means 7 by which friction torque acting on the support member 5 is increased when the support member 5 turns from the maximum opening position to the maximum-use opening position.
