A process for resolution of methyl 2-substituted phenylglycine esters and/or acids of the formula I by asymmetric transformation of diastereomeric salts formula (I) comprising resolution of racemic 2-substituted phenylglycine esters and/or acids of formula (I)with L(+) tartaric acid in molar ratio of 0.9 to 1.4 in presence of solvent selected from acetone, methanol, ethanol, isopropyl alcohol and mixture thereof.
