<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distribution method for fuel into an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine for achieving as accurate distribution as possible and to provide a device for performing the method. <P>SOLUTION: In this distribution method for fuel into at least one exhaust passage 20 of the internal combustion engine 10 for converting fuel in heat generation reaction to raise temperature of constituent elements 23, 25 to be heated and setting target temperature TSW of the constituent elements 23, 25 to be heated or target temperature TSW of exhaust gas in front of the constituent elements 23, 25 to be heated, distribution quantity msHC of fuel is calculated using a heat generation reaction model to achieve the set target temperature TSW.
