PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a stable operation while avoiding efficiency degradation due to power voltage variation or the like, in a discharge lamp lighting device composed by combining a D.C.-D.C. converter with a D.C.-A.C. converter. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp lighting device is provided with: the D.C.-D.C. converter 2; the D.C.-A.C. converter 3; an igniter 5; an output voltage detection part 6b; an output current detection part 6c; an input voltage detection part 6a; and a control circuit 6 for receiving detection signals of the respective detection parts 6a, 6b and 6c to operate the D.C.-D.C. converter 2. Two or more frequencies of signals for driving the the D.C.-D.C. converter 2 from the control circuit 6 are provided, and the frequencies are changed over to each other by synchronizing them with reversal of polarity of the D.C.-A.C. converter 3.
