PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for transmitting and receiving digital data between a PC and a PLC (programmable controller) without using an RS232C interface and a transmitter-receiver and a transmission system that uses the method. SOLUTION: This method comprises steps for: turning on a first signal line and simultaneously turning on or off a second signal line in accordance with data to be transmitted in a transmitter; obtaining a value of the second signa line as reception data and setting a third signal line to an on-state in a receiver; turning off the first signal line and the second signal line in the transmitter; turning off the third signal line in the receiver; and confirming that transmission is normally finished by detecting the off-state of the third signal line in the transmitter.
