PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image quality correction circuit for accurately grasping the characteristics of an input video signal to perform contour correction. SOLUTION: There are provided a filter circuit 10 for extracting the contour component of an input video signal, a contour component nonlinear processor 13 for varying the amplitude of the contour component extracted by the filter circuit, an adder 14 for adding the output of the contour component nonlinear processor to the input video signal, a histogram detection circuit 11 for detecting the histogram of the contour component extracted by the filter circuit, and a control circuit 12 for controlling the amount of contour enhancement at the contour component nonlinear processor according to results detected by the histogram detection circuit.
