PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chassis of a recording and reproducing apparatus, which relaxes stress concentration on fixed parts. SOLUTION: The chassis (1A) of a recording and reproducing apparatus has; a mounting part (10) which is made of a metallic plate supporting a drive part (2) of the recording and reproducing apparatus and has the drive part mounted thereon; first and second bending parts (31A and 32A) facing each other which are formed in both side ends (11 and 12) of the mounting part by bending the metallic plate; and a third bending part (33A) formed in one end other than the both side ends of the mounting part by bending the metallic plate. Each of the first to third bending parts has: a pair of rising parts (311 and 312, 321 and 322, or 331 and 332) formed apart from each other by bending the metallic plate at right angles; and a connection part (313, 323, or 333) connecting end parts of the pair of rising parts.
