PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water purification material which can prevent organic matter adsorption particles fixed onto a fiber surface from falling off, and inhibit the reduction of a specific surface area of the organic matter adsorption particle. SOLUTION: This water purification material comprises fiber, a binder resin on its surface, and the organic matter adsorption particles fixed to the binder resin. The binder resin is a moist heat gelling resin, and the organic matter adsorption particles are fixed by a gelled material obtained by moist heat gelling of the moist heat gelling resin. The organic matter adsorption particles (3) are effectively fixed to a sheath component (1) of bicomponent fiber (5) where, for example, a polypropylene as a thermoplastic synthetic fiber component is used as a core component (2) and an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer resin as a moist heat gelling fiber component is used as the sheath component (1).
