<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge tube lighting device having a highly reliable protection circuit by differentiating between an abnormal discharge component and an electrostatic discharge component. <P>SOLUTION: A current detection circuit 16 detects an output current of a transformer TR, and when an abnormal discharge detection circuit 32 has detected an abnormal discharge component contained in the output current, a lighting operation is stopped and a protecting function is performed against abnormal discharge. Simultaneously, a noise detection circuit 34 detects an electrostatic discharge component observed in the discharge tube lighting device, and the detection result is used for masking the output of the abnormal discharge detection circuit 32 to thereby prevent an erroneous operation of the protection circuit due to electrostatic discharge. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
