<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power regeneration method in which regeneration efficiency can be improved, and a converter device using the same. <P>SOLUTION: In the regeneration of single phase converter K having regenerative transistors Q, the set of transistors Q, Q to be forced into conduction is selected after determining the polarity of a power source E, and a command 31 to allow its conduction is created.
