<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more suitably remove particulate matter deposited on a front end face of an emission control means in an emission control device of an internal combustion engine equipped with the emission control means having oxidization ability in an exhaust passage. <P>SOLUTION: In the exhaust passage 3, a portion upstream of a turbine 5b of a supercharger 5 and a portion near the front end face 4a of the emission control means 4 are brought into communication. A bypass passage 7 is provided for passage of at least a part of exhaust from the internal combustion engine 1. The exhaust discharged through the bypass passage 7 is jetted towards the front end face 4a from a lateral direction of the front end face 4a so that the particulate matter deposited on the front end face 4a of the emission control means 4 is blown off. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
