<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a wide viewing angle, high contrast, high transmittance or a high reflectance compatible among one another in a liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device is configured by sealing a liquid crystal layer 400 between a first substrate 100 including a pixel electrode 200 and a second substrate 300 including a common electrode 320. Each pixel region includes an alignment controller 500 for dividing liquid crystal alignment within one pixel region into multiple sections. The alignment controller 500 at least includes a region in which an electrode absent portion 512 and a protrusion 514 including a slant surface protruding toward the liquid crystal layer 400 are formed at the same location in an overlapping manner on at least one of the first substrate 100 or the second substrate 300 side. Using both the liquid crystal alignment control effected by an adjustable electric field generated at the electrode absent portion 512 and the liquid crystal alignment control effected by the slant surface of the protrusion 514, alignment division of the liquid crystal can be reliably performed within a small area. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
