PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sharply reduce the load applying to an operator by a method wherein the artificial adjustment of the imaging timing of a reference image candidacy due to the change of the size of a signature is made to be unnecessary. SOLUTION: The length of the signature (the signature, the size of which is changed) is measured. The value of the predetermined integrated value Ns, which is used at the generation of imaging timing pulses so as to generate a total of 8 imaging timing pulses at equidistant intervals during the time space between the detection of the fore edge of the signature and that of its rear edge, is automatically changed from the length of the measured signature and the predetermined number N of imaging times. The predetermined integrated value Ns prescribes the pulling-out distanceΔL of the signature at the imaging of the reference image candidacy. Whenever the number of positionally detecting pulses generated whenever the signature is pulled out by every predetermined length reaches the predetermined integrated value Ns, every imaging timing pulse is generated.
