PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an environmentally friendly method for producing an imide resin by reaction between an acrylic resin and a primary amine in an extruder while detoxifying exhaust gas containing an amine separated and removed from the extruder to prevent odor emissions into the environment. SOLUTION: The method comprises carrying out a reaction between the acrylic resin and the primary amine in the extruder. In this process, the exhaust gas containing an amine separated and removed from the extruder is subjected to combustion treatment by catalytic oxidation and detoxified so as to lower trimethylamine concentrations at the exit of the extruder.
