Disclosed is a method for producing a PC copolymer of a specific structure with improved productivity wherein a diester diol-containing monomer is used as a raw material. A polycarbonate copolymer is produced by reacting a diester diol-containing monomer, a dihydric phenol and a carbonate precursor by interfacial polymerization. The diester diol-containing monomer is a reaction product of a hydroxybenzoic acid or an esterified product thereof and a polyalkylene glycol wherein the esterification ratio of hydroxyl groups of the polyalkylene glycol is 50-90 mol%.
