<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-valued information recording medium wherein recording is performed with high sensitivity, cross-erase reduced, a power margin of recording characteristics is widened and repetitive recording characteristics and shelf properties are not deteriorated, and also to provide its recording method. <P>SOLUTION: The multi-valued information recording medium has a phase transition recording layer performing recording and reproduction utilizing reversible phase change between an amorphous phase and a crystal phase by irradiation with light and change of optical constants of each phase, performs recording symmetrically around a center position of a cell having a fixed length while changing a mark area, and also performs recording of ternary or more values in the level of intensity of reflection light reflected from a region including amorphous marks and a crystal part between the amorphous marks. The medium is characterized in that upper limit linear speed of recrystallization of the phase transition recording layer is equal to or lower than the recording linear speed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
