PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image analysis apparatus and program that reliably discriminate a right hand or left hand with a simple algorithm without needing an operator.
SOLUTION: A present image is compared with a background image and a varied portion is extracted as a difference area D, thereby determining a center of gravity G of the difference area D, and a direction (declination ϕ), major axis radius Ra, and minor axis radius Rb of the difference area D (that is, a forearm including a hand) by elliptically approximating the difference area D (S110 to S180). When the difference area D is fully flat (Ra/Rb>Hr), a virtual elbow position P is determined on the basis of the center of gravity G and declination ϕ. From the virtual elbow position P, it is determined which of the left hand or right hand is imaged for obtaining the difference area D, and the position of a finger-tip is estimated from the decision results (S200 to S220). In other words, the decision of the left or right hand is made without analyzing the detail of the images (individual fingers or the like), so that the throughput is greatly reduced to reliably discriminate the right or left hand without being effected by a hand's state.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
