PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine if a digital camera matches a photodirect print mode or not without transmitting information unprepared on the digital camera side when the digital camera and a printer are directly connected.

SOLUTION: When a digital camera DSC and a printer are directly connected and an image stored in the DSC is directly printed, the printer requests information held by the digital camera so that the printer determines whether the digital camera matches the photodirect print mode (S29). As a result, when it receives a script which describes specific information (S30; Yes), the digital camera on the link is determined to support the photo direct print mode.
