摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology of enhancing the productivity of outputs from an image reading apparatus for carrying out double side simultaneous reading, which reads both images formed on a front side and a rear side of an original as color images. <P>SOLUTION: An original reading apparatus reads images formed on the front and rear sides of the original respectively as color images by carrying of the original once. The amount of front side image data read by a CCD image sensor 78 and rear side image data read by a CIS 50 is halved to the original data amount by halving the resolution of both the image data in the subscanning direction. The front side image data and the rear side image data whose data amount is halved are stored in a memory 106 having been originally provided with a storage capacity for storing the rear side image data of one picture. Thereafter while the CCD image sensor 78 and the CIS 50 are used to read a carried succeeding original as color images, the front side image data and the rear side image data of the preceding original stored in the memory 106 are externally transferred. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
