PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developer residual amount detecting device which detects the existence of developer in a developer container in which the developer circularly moves and whose detecting accuracy is high, and a developing device equipped with the same. SOLUTION: In a U-shaped imaging cartridge 110K, toner is circularly carried in a longitudinal direction in a processing unit (developing device) 10. The processing unit 10 is provided with a light transmission window 58 on the wall surface of the developer container 54, so that the existence of the toner is detected with light passing through the developing device through the light transmission window 58. The processing unit 10 is provided with a cleaning member 59 therein so as to clean the light transmission window 58 by moving it back and forth in the longitudinal direction of the processing unit 10K.
