PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress instability of operation, lack of luminance, due to the extension of a reset period and deterioration of contrast due to light emission in the background, in the case of performing progressive display in a PDP, in which one scanning electrode is shared by two adjacent display lines. SOLUTION: After performing reset operation for resetting all cells to a maintainable state at the start of one driving period, selective erasing address operation and maintaining operation are performed repeatedly in each sub-field. Before performing the address operation of one display line L sharing one scanning electrode Y with the other display line, only the address operation can be performed by the display line L and the other display line creates a wall charge state for interrupting the execution of the address operation to stably perform address operation.
