PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the amount of force required to shift up in a front derailleur for a bicycle. SOLUTION: The front derailleur 97f includes a base member 40, a chain guide 41, an inner link 42, an outer link 43, a first arm 44, and a coil spring 45. The base member is mounted on a frame and the chain guide is movable in the direction of gear shift in which it moves toward and away from the base member to guide the chain in the direction of gear shift. With the base member mounted on the frame, the inner link is positioned below the base member and rotatably connected to the base member and the chain guide at each end. At a position leading from the inner link and away from the base member, the outer link is rotatably connected to the base member and the chain guide at each end and positioned parallel to the inner link. The first arm part extends from the outer link in the direction away from the base member and the coil spring is connected to the tips of the base member and the first arm part at each end and biases the chain guide in the direction toward the frame.
