PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optically active citalopram in excellent yield and selectivity and in a process scarcely producing by-product and in such manner as to contain a required enantiomer in high content. SOLUTION: The optically active citalopram is produced by passing through an optically active intermediate represented by formula (II) obtained by reacting a compound represented by formula (I) with an optically active compound having a propane skeleton having an asymmetric center in a central carbon represented by formula (VI).
