METHOD FOR HYDROXYMETHYLATION OF A PHOSPHONIC ACID IN AN ESTERIFIED FORM

The invention relates to a novel method for hydroxymethylation of a phosphonic acid in an esterified form. Said invention also relates to the use of the inventive method for producing a sulphonyl derivative from the thus obtainable methylolphosphonate, and, in particular to preparing a dialkyl p-toluenesulfonyl-oxy-methylphosphonate. Said method for hydroxymethylation of a phosphonic acid in an esterified form consists in reacting a corresponding phosphite and a formaldehyde source and is characterised in that the reaction is carried out in an aqueous medium and in the presence of a base selected from metallic hydroxides, monohydrogenophosphate or phosphates and alkali metal acetates.
