PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a residue of the transfer of signal charge caused by a potential dip S between vertical transfer electrodes. SOLUTION: This interlined solid state imaging device has four or more phases of vertical transfer electrodes 4a, 4b, 4c and 4d per one pixel. While the same vertical transfer signals are fed to a plurality of continuous groups of the vertical transfer electrodes 4a, 4b, 4c and 4d to carry out high speed transfer, each vertical transfer signal is fed to the downstream electrode of the a plurality of groups of electrodes at a time earlier than a time when the upstream electrode is fed with the signal prior to a prescribed time.
