PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce memory capacity for storing a density error value that occurs and to obtain an image processing result with high graininess in an image processing method for recording a multiple tone image by an error diffusion method. SOLUTION: The total error values for M pixels of errors err_m spread to unprocessed pixels in the same line as a processed line with a pixel under consideration located are stored in a processed line error buffer ErrM [] every M pixels, and the total error values for N pixels of errors err_n spread to unprocessed pixels of a processed line next to the processed line with the pixel under consideration located are stored in an ErrN [] every N pixels.
