PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic shock absorber enabling the fixing of a sliding member at a position apart from the opening part of an outer tube to the inner peripheral surface of the outer tube by an extremely simple structure. SOLUTION: In this hydraulic shock absorber, the sliding member 4 fixedly fitted to the position apart from the opening part 6 of the outer tube 2 is formed in a ring shape with a joint opening of 15 to 25°, deformed so that the joint opening is reduced when it is press-fitted into the outer tube 2 to fittedly assemble it to a fitting recessed part 11 formed in the outer peripheral surface of the outer tube at the position apart from the opening 6 of the outer tube 2. Thus, since the interval of a joint is formed rather large, the sliding member can be press-fitted to the position apart from the opening part 6 of the outer tube 2 by sufficiently deforming the sliding member 4.
