PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing promoters for vanadium-based catalyst, used for (co)polymerization of olefin, especially, production of ethylene/propylene (EPR) or ethylene/propylene/diene (EPDM) elastomeric copolymer. SOLUTION: The compound represented by formula 1 [wherein, X is carbonyl (CO) or sulfonyl (SO2); n is 0 or 1; R' is a 1-20C (halogenated) alkyl or alkylaryl; and R" is R' or H] is produced by reacting trichloroacetaldehyde with an ester of trichloroacetic acid in the presence of Zn and converting to the compound represented by formula 1 by reaction with an acid halide.
